Tour of Corning

Last week we skipped work and headed across the Mason-Dixon Line to visit a friend in upstate NY. He lives in his family's farmhouse near Caton. As you can see the area is beautiful. It's a shame we were a week or so early for the fall foliage.

On Saturday we wandered through downtown Corning. Downtown is full of great history. One example is this display of NY's first electric chair, built here by Dr. Edwin Davis. AFLAC!!!

There are some great business names such as the Snooty Pig Irish Pub.

Which is not to be out done by this gem.

The architectural elements in Corning are interesting as well.

The Town Square looks freshly renovated and ready for Octoberfest.

Later on we attended a wine tasting at Lakewood Winery on the banks of Lake Seneca in Watkins Glen. You can barely see a sliver of the lake just past the rows of grapes.
